When a parent or other close relative has passed away it is important to find an appropriate way to remember them at the wedding. While a missing parent is certainly sad, it shouldn't overpower the celebration of the wedding day.

Some ways to honor and remember someone are:

  • Display the wedding pictures of family members or pictures of loved one with the bride/groom.
  • Attach a locket with your love ones picture to a handkerchief.
  • Setup a small table at the wedding reception with a flower arrangement and a card. You may include a picture of the bride or groom with the deceases person you are honoring. Include a card saying 'In memory of those loved ones who are not with us today" or more specifically, "In memory of ..., mother of the Bride\Groom'.
  • Add a memoriam line at the end of the wedding program. For example, 'Today we honor those who could not be with us, especially the Brides mother..."
  • If the officiant conducting the ceremony knew the deceased, it is appropriate for him/her to add something during the ceremony.

These are just a few ways to honor the memory of a passed love one. The secret is to always keep the mood joyous, after all a wedding is a celebration.
